Katarina began to skate at age five. old. She was able to prove her talent and gain entry into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted children. It was here that she got to know her coach Jutta Muller. The year that Witt made her breakthrough was in 1982 when she finished 2nd at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport with her elegance and grace. Olympic victory Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in the women's ice skaters at the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. A few years later she was able to win an even tougher competition. She actually lost the free skating contest, however she won the gold medal on her performance in the mandatory figures as well as the short-form program. Witt is the first female figure skater who has won this event two times after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt, who was a star in the world of film and television as an actor, returned to figure skating to compete in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd despite not winning a medal. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
